JaMiel Cox's The Road to Stardom

The true grind of becoming a star

Is summer ending or just beginning for me!

clock August 6, 2009 13:13 by author 26963256

Well it has been a minute since I have had a chance to post my "daily blog"   The last entry I told you guys about me going to New York for the UMAs. This was an interesting trip.  First on arriving I meet some people at my hotel, because I am so friendly, and went out for drinks on my first night in New York.  I had a ball, but everyone knew I was from the South! I had a chance to meet the founder  of the UMA's on my second day, sung two song and he told me I have a noce voice but my words were predictable.  I was like wow, really? ok  I can't please them all.  I was  really looking for the awards to be a star studded event and on top of that this was my first red carpet.  Little did I know I was walking into the "Ghetto"  Awards.  There was so many "they did not haves" that I would be here all day tell ing you.  Now lets talk about the positives.  KRS 1, Swiss Beats, Dana Dane and Bobby Valentino were the musical celebs there.  Yes, I am done that was it! KRS 1 opened the show and was more than I amagined.  I would have paid to see him 10 times more.  The rest of the show was boring and then Bobby Valentino performed and won all the awards.

 Now that that is over

After my trip I have had one good phone call after another:  I received a call telling me my song Lost Jakebeatz  Mix was going to start airing on radio.  Yeah yeah I was excited! Then I received two bookings: one for Over the Edge in Atlanta, GA and a performance for GAP at one of their stores for their 40th Anniversary! I cant beleive it either.  Now we are in talks about doing some campaign work for GAP. What JaMiel Cox, a spokes model?  My nest endeavor is the open up for Akon and t-Pain.  I entered a contest yesterday put on by Explore Talent.  All I have to do is have people vote for my song and If I win I get to open up for them and other artist in Miami on August 22, 2009. The great thing about it is voters can win $200-$2000 just for voting.  So I want to win and you want to make some money so I will give you the info.

Just click on this link http://www.exploretalent.com/contest_video.php?talentnum=2777140&cm_id=1827

My Pre-Awards Delema

clock July 14, 2009 10:33 by author 26963256

My Delema

So I have my plane ticket, my audition time, my V.I.P ticket for the event, my red carpet check in ID and my outfit I am wearing, but no place to stay.

What am I to do? It is now 3 days until the event and 2 days until I leave for New York, NY.

I bet your saying, JaMiel what are you talking about? Well when you are a new artist grinding...(before the record contract)...you are 100% financially resonsible for everything and in the music industry nothing is cheap! From purchasing a a hot beat to paying for a publicist so you can get into all the events, everything cost! Now some of my friends have told me "don't go, there will be other opportunities." I cant do that! I have missed the BET Awards and the Essence Awards, both I had red carpet appearances for.

I will NOT miss this!

When you have a dream you have to run after it. Sometimes you put yourself in strange places to be blessed. And I think this is one of those times. Out of all the friends I have none of them live in New York. Well I decided to let you guyes weight in and comment on this post: I will let you know my decision later.

True Grind

clock July 11, 2009 16:24 by author 26963256

TRUE GRIND

Ok so every artist knows that being a recording artist means doing shows, well I am no different.    When you are new you have to get yourself out there and the only way to do that is to just do shows, do shows, and more shows.  If I want to be conpared to artist like the GReat Micheal Jackson, Neyo, Beyonce, Usher, TI, James Brown, R Kelley, or even Prince I have to constrantly perfect my show.Over the past few months I have been doing just that here in Atlanta working on creating my buzz.  Every day that I go onto the internet there is something new about me, but on the streets of Atlanta, no one knows me.  So I have to promote, promote and perform where ever I can. So to illustrate what I mean I have two videos of me performing...Hope you like.

Finally found a manager!

clock July 11, 2009 15:30 by author 26963256

America,

As you all know I have been on a search to find a manager to take me to the next level.  This is a very crucial time because I am not a major artist yet, but I am far from a beginner so the person who manages me has to be well connected and ready to work hard for the reward is gonna be great! A few days ago I told you about a lady by the name of Kelela Bleu, a talent manager and how she was interested in managing me....Well she invited me to lunch today with her and her business partner to discuss the possibility of adding me to her roster.  I was egar for the meeting since my conversations with her had been good, but everyone sounds good on the phone, lol!  I was 15 minutes late for the meeting after being stuck in Atlanta, GA traffic on I-85.  I didn't think that would happen on a Saturday afternoon.  My lunch meeting was at the California Pizza Kitchen in Atlantic Station.

Atlantic Station

Kelela was a tall artsy woman sporting a scarf.  When I arrived she was very happy to see me and wwe just started talking as if we had known each other for a while.  She pulled out a presentation on her company, what they can do, what they will not do and how they what they had to offer was what I needed.  I was inpressed but leary since my last manager was a " nice" guy and see what he did so I plan to like Madea says" U betta watch" so I did.  I told her how most of my fan base was in Japan and it would be great to go over seas and tour for a few months and how I have a set plan for myself from now until the end of the year.  I also stated I was tired and needed a manager to take the burden off me so I can just be a creative artist and make great music.  Kelela and her partner Denise were ready for the challenge and had already did their reserch on me.  Someone on their team was already making calls to their connects on making JaMiel Cox and International artist!

Hold on, this is where I shout!

Thank you Lord!

Ok, Im back.  I ordered a pepersoni pizza and had an ice tea to drink, but I couldn't eat I was too full on excitement.  I had just came from church and was told that I would see my destiny unfolding in front of my very eyes soon.   So you can see why at this meeting I couldnt control myself, but no one knew I kept a straight face.  I must say this was the first time I saw myself was the world artist I only would dream about. Listening to the opportunity to work with Outkast, Timberland, have a well respected entertainment lawyer, a publisher and distribution outlets...I thought I was dreaming.  It was all up to me.  I was the "talent" that they had been waiting for.  The "talent" ready for the next level.  So after further talks I decided to let them do just that....Take me to the next level! So America my new manager is the Kelela Bleu Management Agency!

What Athletic Shoe fits Your Active Lifestyle?

clock July 10, 2009 12:03 by author 26963256
Every man knows that there are different kinds of athletic shoes available to you and their details are based upon the specifics of the activity that you choose to do. Whether you’re chosen activity is running, hiking, or any other sport it is important that you have a pair of quality athletic shoes that can stand up to the wear and tear that you can dish out.

There are many things to consider when you are shopping for men’s athletic shoes. First and foremost, the shoes must be comfortable. If you are spending a considerable amount of time in these shoes it is important that they do not torture your feet. Therefore, an important tip to remember is go shopping for your athletic shoes later in the day. The reason being is that throughout the day, your feet swell, so the later in the day you shop, the better the chance is that you will find a pair of ">men’s athletic shoes that truly fit your feet.

The next item you need to consider is the durability of the shoes. There’s nothing worse than having a pair of athletic shoes that wears out too quickly or can stand up to your active lifestyle, make sure you buy a recognized and trusted brand.

In addition, pay attention to design, style, affordability and support. All of these factors play an important role when it comes to picking out a men’s athletic shoe to fit your needs.

Finally, make sure you do business with a reputable retailer where you can try the shoes on before you buy them. If you are buying the shoes online

, make sure the site you are shopping from has a flexible return policy and reasonable shipping charges.

Finding a manager

clock July 9, 2009 12:57 by author 26963256

Today, I received a call from a lady by the name of Kelela.  I thought she was calling me about singing some pop songs she had, but to my suprise she was calling to find out more about me.  She had visited my website www.jameilcox.com and saw how many pages on google I had and wanted to know who this JaMiel Cox was.  Kelela later told me she was a talent manager and would be very interested in managing me.  She felt with her connections and my talent that I could continue on this fast track to stardom that I just started in November 2008.  I loved her excitment and decided to have a meeting on Saturday.  We talked briefly about what type of career I wanted and how I wanted to act and be a spokes person.  So let see what happens !

 Some History

Now I have been on this journey of looking for a manager for a little over a month now.  My last manager and I parted ways when I found out after reading a distribution contract that I was "signed" to his label and he was using me to get a distribution deal.  You know I probably would not have minded if I wasnt funding my entire career.  If I am going to be signed to anyone they need to pay for something.  Also I guess I was suppose to be dumb and not know how to read legal language.  Well I did graduate from one of the top HBCUs in the world, Florida A&M University! On the other hand, he never even tried to tell me!! Wow, that is the most important lesson I or anyone looking to be in the entertainment business needs to know..........Most people are not looking out for your best interest and will try to take you for a ride to get themselves on.....Just know there are little to no one you can trust in this business.  I won't charge you for that!
